Ever since the first Avengers movie, the MCU has been building their story line around Thanos and the Infinity Stones. Fans were introduced officially to the Stones in Guardians of the Galaxy, when they were first mentioned by name, but hinted at them in the end credits scene for Thor 2. But with the Infinity Wars looming, things are likely to get ramped up in the MCU. We have seen Thanos a few times now between the end credit scenes for both Avengers films, but also some decent screen time in Guardians. Thanos is the big bad we’ve all been waiting to see more of, and according to rumors, we might see more in Thor: Ragnarok.
Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, has said that Thor: Ragnarok will not only be a super important part of Phase 3, but it will impact everything that comes out next. Now with the Infinity War set to take place in 2018 the quest for the Stones will culminate, and at the end of Age of Ultron, we know that Thanos is going to take matters into his own hands.
So what does this mean for Thor: Ragnarok? If the rumors hold true, we might not only get to see the Mad Titan in action, but we might get to see a throwdown with the God of Thunder himself. While this would be an amazing thing to see, it’s likely that the focus of Ragnarok will be on Thor not only trying to learn more about the Stones, but also coming to grips with the events of the world ending event that is Ragnarok.
So will viewers get to see this showdown? Most are hoping for it, but better money is placed on seeing Thanos using the events of Ragnarok to slip in unnoticed and steal the Tesseract, which contains the Space Stone. The big bad has been announced for Ragnarok, and that’s Surtur, lord of Nifelheim. So, while seeing Thanos battle Thor would be amazing, viewers should just hold out for 2018.
