According to a French video game distributor, Innelec Multimedia, the rumored mid-gen upgrade for the PS4 will be released in September. In a press release, they stated that something they call the Neo 4K will be released in “the first half of our fiscal year” which lines up from April to September.
If the rumor is true, then it would put the Neo 4K ahead of the Playstation VR in October, and ahead of the originally planned announcement for the console. The Neo is rumored to a be a supercharged version of the PS4, with higher clock speed, improved GPU, higher memory bandwidth, and will support 4K image output.
There seems to be conflicting beliefs in the industry regarding the future of new generations of current consoles. Ubisoft CEO, Yves Guillemot, believes that even though there are planned mid-gen upgrades, he feels confident that there will be another generation of consoles. This is contrary to the report that Shuhei Yoshida, big boss of Playstation, is unsure of whether there will be PS5 or not.
