The Justice League, like the Avengers, is one of the most recognizable names in super hero teams in all of comicdom. Saying the name tends to immediately conjure images of Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and the rest. But there is also another team that bears the name Justice League, but this one is not quite so well known outside of avid fans. Justice League Dark is that team, and they are the group that handles the supernatural and mystical part of the DC Universe.
The team has consisted of many different heroes, but the original team consisted of John Constantine, Zatanna, Madame Xanadu, Deadman, and Shade, the Changing Man. As stated prior to this, this team deals with the mystical and supernatural, as evidenced by the team lineup. Zatanna is a magician/wizard, Constantine can also tap into arcane energies, and many of the others have either magical or supernatural powers (Deadman is, in essence, a ghost) Other team members have included Etrigan the Demon, Frankenstein, and Swamp Thing.
There is currently an animated feature for this team, which released in 2016 to DVD and video, but it was announced that a live-action movie would be coming to the big screen. Originally, it was rumored that Guillermo Del Toro would be the director, a decision which would have been great, given his penchant for bringing the weird to life, and any sort of creature would have been amazing. Recently, a new director was announced: Doug Liman, who directed Edge of Tomorrow.
Warner Brothers made this announcement about a week ago, and with it they announced that Scott Rudin would produce and the film would be penned by Michael Gilio. Warner Bros had no further comment other than the actual announcement. Doug Liman was originally attached to the Gambit film, but a mutual split between the Liman and the studio ended that relationship. No plot details were revealed, but what is known is it will be an ensemble cast (obviously) and will “play a major role in the new D.C. Cinematic Universe.” Stay tuned to Wampaslayer.com for more details!
