Ticket to Ride: Rails and Sails

We’ve built our long routes across the United States, made our way through the Chunnel in Europe, and even forged new lines in Norway. But the time has finally come to make our way across the entire world!

That’s right, the good people over at Days of Wonder have announced a new Ticket to Ride that expands your route beyond land and tunnels to the great oceans themselves: Ticket to Ride Rails and Sails. On top of the 165 trains in the customary colors, the game now includes 250 ships to help continue your routes from Europe to America and beyond. The game includes the customary double sided map with one side being a Mercator representation of the world and the other a blown up version of the Great Lakes region of the US and Canada.

The mechanics of Rails and Sails have been adjusted slightly to make room for the new sea faring ability. There are still your color coded cards for trains but separate color coded cards have been added specifically for ships. The wild cards are still the same acting as an any color train or any color ship. Also as a new action, players build harbors at the end of connected routes for port cities allowing them to connect their ship routes and adding yet another layer of strategies as you plan your tickets with the added mechanic of unbuilt harbors taking away points.

I have always been a huge fan of the ticket to ride series and I’m super excited to see an expansion as big as this. I’m especially in love with all of the ship and harbor pieces added and the fact that we will be able to plan out routes around our home state and the Great Lakes. This is going to be a definite purchase for me!
